What is soutache?

Soutache braid has decorated European military uniforms and formal dress for centuries, but soutache jewellery as we know it today is a modern craft — pioneered in the late 1980s, when designer Dori Csengri began embroidering braid, beads and crystals together by hand. We work the same way: every single centimetre of cord is stitched down individually with a needle, one pass at a time, until the shape takes form.

Depending on the design, a single pair takes between 8 and 25 hours to complete — there are no shortcuts and no machines, only patience and a steady hand. Because each piece is shaped freehand, no two pairs are ever perfectly identical. The small variations aren't flaws; they're proof that a real person made what you're wearing.
